Camille Grammer doesn't always take the high road, as viewers of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills know too well. So how will she react on the day of her divorce? Actually, that day was today -- and the 42-year-old socialite released an uncharacteristically gracious statement wishing her estranged husband Kelsey Grammer a happy new marriage.
"I have a great many mixed feelings about today. I'm sad for what was, yet excited about the road ahead," Camille told the press. "I'm grateful to my family and friends who have stood by me through this time. I will never forget their love and support."
"What I most hope," she continued, "is that Kelsey and I can improve our communications and truly co-parent our two wonderful children. And I wish Kelsey and Kayte love and happiness in their new marriage."
This outpouring of hopes and wishes was prompted by a Los Angeles judge's decision to fast-track Kelsey's divorce from Camille. Kelsey, 55, requested a quickie divorce in order to marry fiancée Kayte Walsh, 29, at the end of February. "Kayte and I are marrying because... we are in love and see no reason to postpone our happiness any longer," the former Frasier star said in December.
Until now, Camille hasn't been so polite about Kelsey's new relationship. We don't blame her for feeling like her husband of 14 years of abandoned her -- because, well, he kind of did. Then she accused him of forcing her to do Housewives so that he would be able to sneak off and cheat on her -- which seems a little paranoid, but okay, maybe. But she lost our sympathies when she attacked her ex on The Howard Stern Show, insinuating that he was gay, calling him a bad father and revealing lots of personal details that their kids will certainly not appreciate being broadcast to the world.
If that's how she feels, why is she playing nice now? Maybe it's because the battle isn't over: Even though the Grammers' divorce has been granted, they still haven't hashed out whether Camille is entitled to half of Kelsey's money. Maybe she's hoping that appearing more sympathetic will help her win that $50 million dollars? Or perhaps she's just saving her energy for the courtroom -- or for the next season of Real Housewives!
