With her marriage falling to pieces around her, Camille Grammer says she attempted to resign from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in the middle of filming the Bravo show.
"I don't know if I can say this, but I quit at one point," Grammer, 42, tells TV.com in a new interview. "I did. Because it was too much."
"I didn't know how much I could expose at the time," says Camille. "I was holding a lot back because I had known for a while that things were not right between my husband and I. So it's very difficult filming a reality show while you're going through this process, and hurt, and devastation."
And that's when she hit her breaking point: "I quit for, you know, a couple of weeks."
But she was urged back to the show by her husband, who gave her hope that their marriage could be saved.
"Actually Kelsey called me and said, 'You have an obligation to do the show. You have to finish the show,'" she remembers. "So I said, okay. He also asked me to come to the Tonys."
Soon after, however, Kelsey revealed that he was in love with someone else.
"He said, 'I've been thinking about it, and I just don't want to be married any longer,'" Camille says.
At the time, Kelsey denied he was having an affair and still requested his wife's presence at the Tonys, where he was a nominee for La Cage aux Folles. But Camille hesitated.
"I said that I felt too uncomfortable and upset, and I don't understand why I would have to come. And he said, 'Listen, you have an obligation to finish out the show. You have to come,'" Camille recalls. "He also mentioned that maybe we could talk things through and work it out. That gave me a glimmer of hope that maybe we could spark some romance that weekend. But at that point, he was already gone."
The couple was not able to work things out and began a very public, very bitter split, which finally ended this past week when their divorce was finalized. Kelsey is set to marry Walsh at the end of the month, and Camille has even given their wedding her blessing.
While Camille is still unsure about her future on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she knows one thing for sure: Despite recent rumors, she has no plans to head east and star on the New York edition of the show.
"No!" she laughs. "I can definitely say that's not happening."
