Mel Gibson should take note. If you want to know how to make mistake after mistake and be forgiven, just watch Charlie Sheen, whose latest scandal involved being found naked and intoxicated after trashing his room at New York City's Plaza Hotel (though his rep insisted he had "an allergic reaction" to medication).
The Two and a Half Men star has had run-ins with the law for everything from drug charges to domestic violence and yet continues to be the highest paid actor on television. In May of this year he even renewed his contract for a reported $1.8 million an episode for the next two years.
Last year, Sheen was arrested for pulling a knife on his wife of two-and-a-half years, Brooke Mueller. At the time a source on set was quoted in People magazine as saying, Sheen "is always on time and is completely committed." Even his costars have only positive things to say. Jon Cryer, who plays his brother on the show, called him "a great guy, loyal friend and a lovely guy to work with. He’s a guy who dotes on his kids as much as any other father."
In addition to his 19-month twin boys with Mueller, Sheen has a 26-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, as well as daughters Sam and Lola with ex-wife Denise Richards. The actress, who was in New York City with Sheen and their two daughters but staying in another room, appeared on The Joy Behar Show last night to talk about the allegations that an under-the influence Sheen trashed his room and had been with a call girl in his $1,000 a night room at the Plaza Hotel on Oct. 26.
Richards would only say that any details would have to be come from her ex. "I know what happened and I did help him at the hospital," she said (see clip above). Since then Sheen was released from New York-Presbyterian Hospital and headed home on a private jet to Los Angeles late Tuesday night.
About the incident, Sheen told Radaronline, “The story is totally overblown and overplayed as far as the reality of the scenario," adding, “I know what went down and that’s where it will stay... under wraps.”
The timing of his latest incident proved to be a good one, as
Two and a Half Menis on a scheduled break this week (though he is
filming a small cameoin a friend's movie). Leaving him with just enough time to get his affairs in order and back on track.
