If you've ever dealt with cancer -- your own or a loved ones -- you know it's one of the most difficult challenges to overcome and not one that everyone wins. It's hard to be lighthearted and carefree with a potentially deadly illness hanging over you at all times.
"You constantly live in fear of an impending threat. It's always on your mind."
The Mimi Foundation, a French non-profit which is dedicated to fighting cancer on all fronts and improving the quality of life of patients, took 20 patients (some terminal) and gave them major over-the-top makeovers.
Watch the video below and see people who are struggling with real hardship have a moment of pure shock and joy -- a moment of forgetting their illnesses.
A new coffee table book, If Only for a Second, collects the images and recounts the entire project.
