Why Stop Self-Exams?



First, the U.S. Preventive Task Force (USPSTF) recommended that most women wait until age 50 to get mammograms, and that all women skip self-exams. Then the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advised that women only need a Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer every two years, not annually. Not surprisingly, the iVillage community has some strong reactions — mostly skeptical.
