Ages: 3-5, 6-8
Skills: Art, thinking, language
What you'll need:
Photos, brochures, tickets and similar mementos; tape or glue; poster board, photo album or other background; mailing labels or small pieces of paper
Children realize the variety of their activities when they create a collage -- perhaps in the form of a large poster or album to record their favorite memories.
Take pictures of your family all year, both special events and everyday happenings: children splashing in water, visiting relatives, eating a juicy peach. Save brochures, tickets, maps and other items from places you visit.
What to do:
With children, decide on a format on which to display your memories. Agree on a background color. Experiment with layouts that are visually pleasing. Overlap some things, cut out boring backgrounds -- be creative and enjoy the variety! Ask children to write (or dictate for you to write) captions. Be sure to title your collage and mark the date.
