Ten million children are at risk of serious injury or death in crashes everyday because car seats are not properly installed and used -- yet, parents still don't know where to turn for help
Four out of ten parents and caregivers do not know how to find a child safety seat inspection location even with more than 1,500 car seat inspection locations now available nationwide, according to a new survey.1 In response, DaimlerChrysler Corporation launched the first nationwide toll-free hotline (1-866-SEAT-CHECK) dedicated exclusively to directing parents to local car seat inspection resources.
"While the tremendous growth in the number of inspection stations indicates this issue is a major national concern, there are still far too many parents who are not aware that such services are available to them, or even necessary," said Bernard Robertson, Senior Vice President of Engineering Technology and Regulatory Affairs, DaimlerChrysler Corporation. "This new initiative is designed to better educate parents on the need to have their safety seats inspected as well as increase accessibility to inspection sites."
