Macchiato means “marked” in Italian, and caramel makes its mark in this comforting drink. Cozy up to a cup of cinnamon-scented cider that’s streaked with a creamy caramel sauce. Cinnamon-flavored whipped cream melts like a dream when it’s spooned on top of this irresistible brew.
|4 cups apple cider||1 cup cold heavy cream, for whipped cream|
|2 cinnamon sticks||1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, for whipped cream|
|Caramel Syrup or store-bought butterscotch sauce||1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar, for whipped cream|
Make Caramel Syrup and allow to cool. Pour into a squeeze bottle with a tip.
On the stove, simmer apple cider and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan for at least 10 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, whip cold heavy cream with a whisk or the whisk attachment of your electric beaters. When soft peaks form, add cinnamon and confectioners’ sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
Pour hot cider into glasses, and top each with a large dollop of whipped cream. Drizzle approximately 1 tablespoon of caramel syrup into each cup, and serve immediately.
