    1 cup flour 1/4 cup ground almonds
    1/2 cup sugar 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
    1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom 1 egg
    1 teaspoon shredded lemon peel 2 teaspoons milk

      In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar and spices

      Stir in the lemon peel and almonds

      Cut the butter into the mixture with a pastry blender or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs

      In a small bowl, beat the egg with the milk

      Stir the egg and milk into the flour mixture until it forms a soft ba

      Chill for at least four hours

      Preheat the oven to 375 degrees

      Roll the dough out one-eighth-inch thick

      Cut into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets

      Sprinkle with sugar and bake for five to eight minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
