Caroline Manzo has generally been a peacemaker on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. So when she went on the attack against Teresa Giudice on Sunday's season 3 reunion show, fans started wondering what was going on. In a new blog entry on the Bravo website, Caroline explains her behavior at the reunion, and opens up about what happened between her and Teresa.
"OK, let's talk about the reunion. It was miserable," writes Caroline, 50. "We're currently shooting Season 4 and the night before the reunion we were all together at an event that should have never ended the way it did. I can't reveal too much, but I can tell you that there was an incident, which led to an ugly confrontation that destroyed a friendship and quite possibly put an irreparable divide between families."
Manzo isn't allowed to discuss events from season 4 yet, but it sounds like she's talking about the same thing that may have motivated Jacqueline Laurita to walk away from the show. (Jacqueline was not at the reunion.) Reportedly, Teresa arranged for her sister-in-law Melissa Gorga to be confronted on-camera about her "stripper" past, even though Melissa has never been a stripper (she worked as a bartender at a strip club). Photos of Teresa's husband Joe having dinner with another woman hit the Internet around the same time, and there may have been some kind of blackmail involved. Whatever happened (here are two theories), it seems like it made Teresa the villain in all the other Housewives' minds.
"Teresa is scum!" Jacqueline tweeted.
In her blog, Caroline says that Teresa told her countless negative stories about her family members Melissa Gorga and Kathy Wakile before they started shooting season 3. Teresa begged Caroline and Jacqueline to help her fix things with her family, so Caroline went into the new season assuming that the Wakiles and the Gorgas were the bad guys. But soon, she says, she realized that "something was wrong with the picture of Melissa and Kathy that had been painted for us." Even worse, she began to believe that Teresa didn't want reconciliation.
"Teresa asked us to help bring her family together but her actions never matched her words. It became very difficult for me to watch the charade," writes Caroline.
As for the jabs Teresa made at Caroline in her Fabulicious! cookbook, Manzo says that her anger wasn't about the jokes made at her expense; "it was about the underhanded sneaky insults towards the rest of us followed by an insincere apology." Fair enough.
Caroline hints that things are going to get worse in part 2 of the reunion, when Teresa brings up her sister, former cast member Dina. (See the clip below.) It seems that Dina, who is the godmother to Teresa's youngest daughter, has sided with her friend over her sister in the ongoing feud. However, both Caroline and Dina have refused to hash out the issue in public, preferring to keep it a family matter.
"I've been asked by numerous publications to tell my story regarding Teresa and Dina and have denied them all, because I refuse to glorify an already sad situation," writes Caroline.
