You know the holidays are right around the corner when networks start announcing their special programming for the month of December.
Fox has announced that country star and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood will headline her own holiday variety show, tentatively titled Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special.
Along with performing songs from her upcoming album and the usual holiday classics, Underwood will perform in comedy bits.
Hopefully Underwood can tap into her inner Cher or Carol Burnett and not have her novice comedy skills detract from what she does best -- singing.
David Cook, Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton have signed on to perform and the comedy sketches are being handled by ex-Seinfeld writer Carol Leifer and former Frasier executive producer Jeffrey Richman.
Underwood will have some friendly competition, as another American Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson, will host her own holiday special on ABC.
Hudson’s special will feature the Grammy winner reliving her favorite childhood moments from the holidays and filming performances throughout the city of Chicago. No date has been announced yet for Hudson’s special but it will air in December.
