The 4 Steps Carson Daly Took to Joining the 'Today' Show

The Voice host will preside over the morning show's new interactive digital studio, called the Orange Room

Carson Daly is joining NBC's Today show! And true to his in-with-the-cool-kids persona, he'll be stationed in the Orange Room, Today's new digital studio that incorporates livestream interviews and social media into the show's content.

“Everything I’ve done in my career up until this point has trained me for Today -- the interviews, the live TV, the live radio -- it all gets paid off,” Carson told Today.com. “I was playing in the minor leagues and now I’ve just been called up to the big leagues."

Indeed, he's played a number of different roles over the course of his TV hosting career. In 1998, he got his big TV break as host of MTV's Total Request Live. His persona on that show was...

Just one of you crazy teenagers! Who, of course, happens to be a little older and hosting your favorite video countdown show:

Late night talk show host. But he was a cool, edgy one who interviews guests about trendy stuff like Kickstarter:

"I hear it a lot," Daly told Salon in May. "We both have radio shows. The Voice, Idol. He does New Year’s Eve [for ABC], I do New Year’s Eve. But Ryan is in his own stratosphere of business and operates on such a higher level."

Ah, but Thursday's news of Daly's new Today gig has catapulted him into that same professional "stratosphere," wouldn't you say?

And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Congrats, Carson!
