Graduation is upon us, and you know what that means: lots of celebrities getting degrees they didn't earn! Well, didn't earn the conventional way, anyhow. This spring, Ben Affleck, Jimmy Kimmel and Michael Strahan are among the stars who collected PhDs honoring their professional achievements (and gave undergrads a thrill with their commencement speeches).
But a few hard-working celebs, including Eva Longoria, also managed to graduate the old-fashioned way. Here are 10 celebrities who can now call themselves Doctor -- or at the very least, Bachelor.
1. Ben Affleck - Brown University, Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts
"This is a spectacular honor for me. Among other things today, in terms of higher education, I passed Matt Damon," Affleck joked in his acceptance speech. (Neither actor graduated from college; Affleck did one semester at the University of Vermont, while Damon did three-and-a-half years at Harvard.) He also gave a shout-out to his 7-year-old daughter Violet, who questioned how he could get a degree when he "went to no classes and did no homework."
2. Jimmy Kimmel - University of Nevada Las Vegas, Honorary Doctorate
"Now I’m officially a doctor, and I will start prescribing. I will start with painkillers," Kimmel told the crowd. The comedian, who spent one year at the university as an undergraduate, added the he "worked harder on this speech than on all the homework that I had at UNLV."
3. Eva Longoria - Cal State Northridge, Master of Chicano Studies
This was not an honorary degree: The actress earned her cap and gown by studying and attending classes for three years, two of them while filming Desperate Housewives. Even Bill Clinton was impressed, tweeting, "@EvaLongoria Thanks for inspiring others to never stop learning."
4. Willie Nelson - Berklee College of Music, Honorary Doctorates
The country legend was honored at the college's annual graduation concert, along with Eurythmics singer Annie Lenox and singer-songwriter Carole King.
5. Daniel Day-Lewis - Julliard School, Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts
The three-time Oscar winner, who attended the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in his native England, picked up an honorary degree from the New York City institution.
6. Joss Whedon - Wesleyan University, Honorary Doctorate
The Avengers director and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator gave a funny, inspired speech at the college where he studied film. (Opening line: "Two roads diverged in a wood and -- No! I’m not that lazy.") The sound quality on the video is touch and go (why are graduations always so windy?), but you can read the full speech here.
7. Michael Strahan - Texas Southern University, Honorary Doctorate
The Live with Kelly and Michael cohost revisited his college football days when he received a doctorate from his alma mater. "Thank you so much," the former NFL player told university officials. "And I want to thank you again for not reading my GPA, because that may have demotivated a few people."
8. America Ferrera - University of Southern California, Bachelor's Degree
Another celebrity who earned her degree! The Ugly Betty star put her undergraduate education on hold for her acting career, and ten years later, she completed all her credits.
9. Barbra Streisand - Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy, Hebrew University
Who knew that Babs was a philosopher? Streisand will be receiving her honorary degree during a visit to Israel in June.
10. John Goodman - Missouri University, Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters
Sadly, the actor was unable to accept his degree at the university's graduation ceremony, since he was attending his own daughter's graduation elsewhere. Nonetheless, he'll collect the honor from his alma mater in August and give (we're assuming) a touching and hilarious speech.
