chime in nowAt one time or another, every girl in America who read Judy Blume's Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret repeated the mantra, “We must, we must, we must increase our bust.” Blume shocked fans when she announced on her blog that she spent her summer batting breast cancer instead of on vacation in Italy. She joked that she has "small breasts (a la Margaret Simon)," and made a sly allusion to Are You There God?'s most famous quote to her surgeon, but the doc didn't seem to get the joke. Diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ, she had to have a mastectomy. She credits her radiologist, Dr. S, with finding the cancer because she opted for a sonogram over a mammogram to better examine Blume's dense breast tissue. ("Even the breast surgeon couldn’t feel this one.") Blume, 74, is getting out and about around her New York home and has been cleared to type for an hour a day. Could a new book be on the way?
