James McAvoy, Latest Celebrity Hero, Stops Play to Help Sick Audience Member

The X-Men actor showed real-life heroics during a performance of Macbeth!

All that time playing an X-Man has rubbed off on James McAvoy! The X-Men: First Class star, currently starring in a London stage production of Macbeth, stopped the show on Thursday to help an audience member who had collapsed. Swoon!

McAvoy, who is playing the title role, was in the middle of a climactic swordfight when someone in the seats fell ill. According to reports, the Scottish actor went into the audience, checked on the collapsed theatergoer, and called for help. Then he went right back onstage to continue his fight. As one witness tweeted:

We love it when celebrities engage in real-life heroics! Here are 5 other stars who have stepped up in a crisis and proved they're worthy of our adoration.

Liev Schrieber - Just last week, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor (must be something about those X-Men movies!) helped a woman who had fallen in the street and hurt herself near his Los Angeles home.

Jennifer Lawrence - Last summer, the Hunger Games actress was walking her dog in Santa Monica when a woman collapsed on the grass nearby. Lawrence and another bystander ran over to the stranger and called 911 on her behalf. Police and paramedics arrived on the scene, and later gave the woman the all-clear.

Ryan Gosling - In one of the best celebrity sightings ever, Gosling was captured by a bystander's cellphone camera as he broke up a New York City street fight in August 2011. Not long afterwards, he saved a journalist from getting hit by a cab. So basically, he's Batman.

Armie Hammer - The Mirror Mirror actor turned real-life Prince Charming in October, when he helped pull a woman from her smashed-up car during rush hour in a busy Los Angeles intersection. According to another good Samaritan, nobody was seriously injured.

Kate Winslet - Out of all the celebrity heroes, Winslet may be the only one who has rescued someone from a burning building. In August 2011, the Contagion actress was vacationing on billionaire Richard Branson's private island when lightning set the house on fire. She immediately grabbed her children, then carried Branson's elderly mother to safety. Obviously her good deed won her favor with the family; she married Branson's son Ned Rocknroll the following winter.
