Thanks to the advent of Twitter, celebrities don't need to issue press releases or go on talk shows in order to share their views about, say, the passing of a beloved celebrity. The outpouring of grief on the social-networking site was touching and, at times, tear-jerking. Here's who took to the internet to share their thoughts and remembrances.
Demi Moore (@mrskutcher), who co-starred with Swayze in Ghost, tugged at heartstrings with her two messages:
"Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives."
"And in the words of Sam to Molly. "It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you."I love and will miss you Patrick."
Demi's hubby, Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk), posted a simple Tweet and a link to Swayze's hilarious "Chippendales" sketch with Saturday Night Live's Chris Farley. "RIP P Swayze"
Barbara Walters (@BarbaraJWalters), who conducted what would be Swayze's final interview, let his fans know where and when they could see more of him.
"Feel so sad about Patrick. Please watch our wonderful one hour Special on him tonight at 10 pm on ABC"
Kirstie Alley (@kirstiealley) shared her shock and sadness -- and reached out to Swayze's wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi.
"Oh my...I just heard about Patrick...unreal...Lisa, here if you need me."
"I will always cherish my amazing memories of Patrick...we had so much fun together...come back soon Patrick, we need you here on earth"
Ryan Seacrest (@RyanSeacrest), showed his musical roots in his Twitter tribute.
"I bought that song "she's like the wind" when I was a kid...and played it over and over on radio we will miss patrick swayze!"
Rachael Leigh Cook (@RachaelLCook), one of Swayze's lesser-known film costars, had very kind words for him.
"We have lost a wonderful man. Patrick played my dad in 11:14 and I can't imagine a lovelier human being. [Cue music; 'Dancing in Heaven']"
Lou Diamond Phillips (@loudphillips), whose star was rising around the same time Patrick Swayze's was, shared many touching thoughts.
"Puffed up wannabes, entitled divas and self-proclaimed stars should take note. A real star fell from the heavens today. A friend, Patrick."
"Patrick Swayze's work truly touched people. His heart was in every role and he handled stardom with grace, dignity and humility."
"Patrick was a gentleman, a warrior and a true artist - the very definition of a real actor and a real man. No one will take his place."
"Many of his films made me cry and I shed tears for him again today. I'm proud to have been his friend. Much love to Lisa and his family."
Even bad boy Buffalo Bills wide receiver, Terrell "T.O." Owens (@terrellowens), rushed to the Web to share his sentiments.
"RIP Patrick Swayze!!"
Hugh Hefner (@hughhefner) planned to honor Swayze's life by having a movie night with a Playboy bunny.
"It's @melissataylor15 's birthday and we're watching "Dirty Dancing" tonight at her suggestion in honor of Patrick Swayze."
Party girl and hotel diva Paris Hilton (@parishilton) showed her soft side.
