Celine Dion Not Pregnant After All

Despite reports that Celine Dion was carrying a child conceived via in vitro fertilization, the word now is that she is not pregnant with her second child after all.

In August, a spokesperson for Celine Dion and husband Rene Angelil announced that she was pregnant via in vitro fertilization. But today People.com reports today that the couple learned "some days later" that the procedure was unsuccessful.

"We are living the reality of the majority of couples who have to use [IVF]. The process can be long and arduous," Angelil, who is 67, told the Canadian paper Journal de Montreal. "But today, we are full of confidence. Celine is more determined than ever."

He said that he and Dion, who is 41, were "shocked" to learn of the IVF's failure, then quickly tried again to get pregnant, but were once again unsuccessful.

"But you know Celine," he added. "She doesn't let go."

Celine's pregnancy attempts have been a matter of public speculation for nearly a decade. The rumor at the time of the August announcement was that she was carrying an embryo that had been frozen in liquid nitrogen for several years, and sources have reported that she and Rene did freeze their embryos while they were trying to conceive their first child, Rene-Charles, who is now 8.

Today there are conflicting interpretations of the couple's announcement -- some sources are saying she actually miscarried despite Rene's statements that Celine was never pregnant in the first place. InTouchWeekly.com, for example, reported that Celine is "no longer pregnant," while others focus on Angelil's phrasing that though they thought she was initially pregnant, "that was not the case."
