So, the ZONE diet. Eek! I’m nervous! Not because I think it’s going to be so hard, but because I haven’t done anything in the way of watching what I eat since I had my baby. Or, actually, since I got pregnant. Yikes! I weigh 162 pounds -- not a number I’m happy to share and a number I hope changes very, very soon. More scary than the poundage though, is the fact that I’ve been diagnosed with high cholesterol -- something I never had before. So I’m even more inspired to lose this baby weight once and for all!
According to the ZONE diet plan, I should be on target with my goal to lose about 16 pounds in 8 weeks, losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. I’ve done one day of the diet so far, and it seems completely doable. I received ZONE baked goods and am supposed to just substitute them in for the regular carbs I eat on a daily basis. The diet also comes with a two-week ‘kick-start’ menu plan that’s super detailed about what to eat for every meal. After that, it seems like you can really play around with recipes and food, as long as you substitute in the ZONE carbs for regular carbs. This morning I had a ZONE bagel and low fat cream cheese, and it was delicious. I mean, it wasn’t a New York bagel, but it really was good!
I’m going to keep doing the exercise routine that I had been doing pre-diet. I box 3 to 4 days a week (I have a punching bag in my basement) and work a little yoga into the mix to stretch out before and cool down after. I love having a punching bag at home because I can do it when T naps, or in the evening even if my husband isn’t home. I’m going to school full-time right now, and I just don’t have extra hours in the day to hit the gym.
What I’m most nervous about is the caffeine and alcohol part. The ZONE doesn’t say you have to let those things go completely, but it does suggest drinking decaf and only having two drinks a week. The alcohol I can handle. But the coffee? How will I live without my coffee? I may have to start slow on that one.
Still, I’m excited about making this change in my life, and though I know it will be hard, I’m pretty sure I can do it!
