    6 cups apple cider 6 whole cloves
    1 2-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced into rounds 6 whole cardamom pods
    4 cinnamon sticks 6 whole star anise
    2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns

      Bring all ingredients to a boil, and immediately lower to a simmer. Cook for at least 15 minutes, uncovered. Strain spices from cider and serve hot.
