It seems teen singing sensation Charice Pempengco has missed the point of what the show Glee is all about. The Huffington Post is reporting that Pempengco, 18, who will be appearing on the hit Fox show's upcoming season, has admitted to having Botox (according to her surgeon, it was to give her a more "naturally round face") and a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening (read: anti-aging) procedure. So much for carrying on Glee's theme of not conforming!
Pempengco, a Filipino who once said she is "very proud" to be one, told the Philippine's ABS-CBN television, "All people will be anticipating how will Charice look? Is she good enough to pit against Rachel Berry [played by Lea Michele]? So of course there is tremendous pressure."
Pempengco, who was once dubbed the Most Talented Girl in the World by Oprah Winfrey and appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the age of 15, begins filming her stint on Glee at the end of the month.
This story raises eyebrows (that is, if you can still raise them) and so many questions. Is the pressure on young stars too great? Will this give people a negative outlook on Glee? Do you think this was really all her idea? Will this influence other young girls to want Botox? What kind of message does this send about our society as a whole?
What do you think of Charice Pempengco's decision to get Botox in preparation for Glee? Chime in below!
