For seven seasons, HBO's Entourage has specialized in cheeky cameos with celebrities playing themselves. Now that the show is approaching its eighth and final season, producers have just one more star on their wish list: Charlie Sheen.
"I called his manager and was told maybe I'd get him," Entourage creator Doug Ellin tells TV Guide. "But I'm still waiting for Charlie to call me back. I'd come up with something good."
Ironically, last season's storyline -- in which Vince (Adrian Grenier) dated a porn star (Sasha Grey) and developed a drug habit -- was loosely based on Sheen, who in the mid-'90s dated porn star Ginger Lynn and went through drug rehab.
The new season, Ellin reveals, will follow Vince as he tries to get his career back after a stint in a rehabilitation facility. Season 8 will also feature clips from the fictional cartoon Johnny's Bananas -- which the creators hope will become a full-fledged animated Entourage spinoff starring Kevin Dillon (a.k.a. Johnny Drama) as Johnny the Gorilla and Andrew Dice Clay as Ronald the Baboon. And there will be a subplot about Ari (Jeremy Piven) trying to make things right with his family -- although, Ellin notes, Piven would be done shooting in time to hypothetically replace Sheen on Two and a Half Men.
"It would be feasible and they'd be lucky to have him," says the Entourage creator of the casting rumor (which CBS has denied).
Some of the celebs currently lined up for final-season cameos include Christian Slater, The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki and Alex Rodriguez. But we're curious what they'd do with that Charlie Sheen cameo. Here's an idea: How about he plays an actual Vatican warlock assassin?
