After winning an Oscar for portraying a serial killer in Monster, Charlize Theron proved that she knows how to handle a dark character. And her back-to-back roles in Young Adult and Snow White and the Huntsman are just a reminder of how good she is at being bad.
When the actress, 36, was told she "plays evil really well," Theron had no problem explaining why.
"That's because I'm a bitch! Thank you, that's so sweet!" she said. "When I came off the Young Adult press tour and then did press for this, someone said, 'You know, you've been playing a lot of evil -- may I say bitchy characters.' We came to the idea that Picasso had his blue period and this is my bitchy period."
Theron (who announced last week that she adopted a baby boy named Jackson) plays the iconic Evil Queen, Ravenna, in the new adaptation of Snow White, costarring Kristen Stewart as the titular princess and Chris Hemsworth as the woodsman Ravenna tasks with killing her stepdaughter.
"It's amazing that we get to do this!" Theron adds about the upcoming thriller, which hits theaters June 1. "Does it look like we're having fun? We get to play! We get to put crowns on our heads and scream at people and play mean. It's amazing, it's the greatest job ever!"
