Daniel Boulud, chef/restaurateur of multiple French restaurants in New York City, Las Vegas, Miami and Beijing, was at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival's Burger Bash to present his "DB Piggy Burger." Want to know what the master of French cuisine keeps in his fridge? Read below to find out.
iVillage: What 3 ingredients should everyone have in their kitchen?
Daniel Boulud: Olive oil, sea salt, cracked pepper and I must add, always have some cheese. You can always compose a meal with cheese. It’s better if it’s good cheese!
iVillage: What’s in your fridge?
DB: Ahh, well now I sound like a hypocrite, because I only have booze! I don’t cook at home! I eat yogurt at home, zero percent yogurt. But that’s it.
iVillage: Is your freezer more exciting?
DB: In my freezer, it’s just vodka. Actually, no, I have ice cream. I live right above the restaurant right now, so I just eat what’s down there. That’s why I want to sell my apartment. I’m sick of living above the store!
iVillage: What can you recommend for a foolproof dinner party dish?
DB: You buy my cookbook Braised, take your time and everyone will be happy. If you’re not a good cook, you can still cook French food. People think French food is difficult, but it’s really the simplest way to cook. It’s the easiest garden-to-table kind of cooking. You give me an onion and a potato I’ll make you a meal out of it.
