Inside Chelsea Clinton's Elegant Wedding

Former president Bill Clinton walks his only daughter down the aisle at sunset on a beautiful summer day

When Chelsea Clinton married investment banker Marc Mezvinsky on Saturday, she made sure that press and paparazzi kept their distance. But of course, we're all scooping up whatever details we can get -- and the picture that's emerging is one of the most elegant celebrity weddings in recent memory.

Where to begin? With the dress, of course. Clinton, 30, wore a custom Vera Wang with a strapless bodice, a wide bejeweled belt, and layers of gathered tulle and organza floating down from the waist. (Rumored cost: twenty thousand dollars.) The bride's hair was pulled back in an elegant chignon, and she wore a long, sheer veil over her face as she walked down the aisle. Accessories were modest and tasteful: diamond earrings and bracelet, and a bouquet of cream-colored roses.

Chelsea's internationally famous parents also looked fabulous: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wore a plum-colored Oscar de la Renta gown, and former President Bill Clinton wore a slim tux, showing off the 20 pounds he shed specifically for the wedding (reportedly at Chelsea's request)! As for the groom, he wore the traditional Jewish yarmulke atop his head, and tallit (prayer shawl) on the shoulders of his tuxedo.

The interfaith sunset ceremony took place at Astor Courts, a posh, historic estate in the small town of Rhinebeck, New York. Bill Clinton reportedly cried (and made everybody else cry!) while walking his only daughter down the aisle. The bride and groom read each other a poem before saying "I do," and in the Jewish tradition, there was a reading of the Seven Blessings. The celebrity guest list is still largely a secret; Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen and Julianne Moore were spotted in Rhinebeck over the weekend, but rumored VIP guests Barbra Streisand, Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks have not been confirmed.

After the wedding, the guests partied until dawn, accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra. The most enthusiastic dancer? The first female Secretary of State, 73-year-old Madeleine Albright, who reportedly boogied all night! When they weren't dancing, the guests dug into a five-foot-tall (gluten-free) cake.

The town of Rhinebeck went crazy for the event, with residents dressing dogs in wedding outfits and local businesses selling wedding-themed food. But no one was happier than Chelsea's proud parents, who released this statement to the press: "Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family."
