If there's any woman who can follow the act of foul-mouthed Russell Brand, it just might be Chelsea Handler! The no-holds-barred comedian/author/talk show host will be hosting this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
Handler, 35, announced on her E! show Chelsea Lately that she'll be heading up the always unpredictable VMAs this year. (We would have killed to hear her reaction to Kanye West's infamous outburst last year!)
"Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of Chelsea Lately," The funny lady quipped to her viewers. "And that's why I will be hosting."
In an interview with the The New York Times, Handler explained why the VMAs are a good fit for her. "If there’s one awards show that I should be hosting, it’s probably this one," she said. "My personality probably wouldn’t jell with the Emmys or the Golden Globes."
Handler will be the first woman to host the show since 1994 when Roseanne Barr was at the helm. Since then, the ceremony has been hosted by the likes of male jokesters including Jimmy Fallon and last year's Russell Brand.
The 27th Annual MTV Video Music Awards, which will feature musical performances by Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B, Florence + The Machine and, yes, even Kanye West, airs live on September 12 at 9 p.m.
