We've seen plenty of booze marketed to the ladies recently. There's Bethenny Frankel's Skinnygirl margaritas and sangria, Little Black Dress wine, cupcake flavored vodka and now a beer that comes packed in six-pack box that looks like a pink and black purse. Chick Beer is the latest in adult beverages tailor-made especially for us. At least according to the press release.
The beer is a light, American-made lager with a flavor that "leans toward the smoothness of malt over the dry bitterness of hops." Designed to appeal to ladylike sensabilities, Chick Beer has 97 calories and 3.5 carbs per serving and less carbonation to reduce the unseemely side effects of beerk drinking (A.K.A. burping).
Maryland-based Shazz Lewis, the woman behind Chick Beer, says she created the product for "independent, smart, fun-loving and self-assured women." But we don't think women need overly girly packaging or low calorie counts to enjoy a beer.
On the upside, Chick Beer promises to donate five percent of their profits to charities that empower women. Frilly lady beer aside, we can't really argue with that.
