You know those smart, sassy, hilarious girlfriends you can't get enough of? The ones who make you laugh so hard you're afraid you'll spray martini out of your nose? Well, Heidi Hanzel and Lara Dyan are kind of like that. Four years ago, they decided to ditch corporate life to live the dream, and they started hosting their hilarious daily radio show, ChickChat. We recently chatted with the chicks about being forced to have fun, the virtues of naked men, what cheerleaders are really like and the secret talent you would never guess they share.
What made you want to start ChickChat?
Heidi: Well, I have the type of friends who like to talk and have fun when we go out. We'd be having a girl's night out and cocktail waitresses would be falling over chairs trying to listen to what we were saying. So we figured that people would want to listen to two chicks chatting about, you know, what chicks chat about.
What's the best thing about your job?
Lara: I think the best thing about our job is that our job is to have fun! Although some days that's not so easy... there are no down days. But still. It's my job to read the fashion magazines; it's my job to watch The Apprentice... [Laughs.] Man, that's tough work. Whenever I'm in an airport and I go to the magazine rack, I buy things like serious, heavy magazines now, instead of the light stuff, because you know, I've read all [the light stuff] because I had to for work.
Heidi: Yeah, I go to get my hair cut and look at their magazines, and there's nothing I haven't already seen.
Lara: I have friends who I used to ask about fashion advice. And now I'm wearing sweatpants every day, and they're asking me, "So what am I getting for spring?" I'm like, well, okay, I'll tell you. I know so much about what's current. And because that stuff always changes, we always have something to talk about. We'll never run out of things to talk about because, you know, when do you ever run out of things to talk about with your girlfriends? Because of that, our job's always changing. It's never the same thing twice.
