For once, the latest outrage over Miley Cyrus is not of her own doing.
Blogger Perez Hilton is under fire, and possibly legal charges, for allegedly linking to an "upskirt" photo of the star sans underwear. ("Upskirt" is the polite way to describe a picture taken up a woman's skirt or dress, usually when she's climbing out of a car, as Miley was, and no, we will not link to the photo, which Perez has since taken down but still lives on in the Internet.)
Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton have all been the subject of upskirt photos in the past -- whether intentionally or not -- so what's the big deal about Miley? Well, she's only 17, putting the alleged photo in child pornography territory.
Reaction to the incident was swift. Jeffrey Douglas, a criminal defense attorney in L.A. who specializes in child pornography cases, told Salon it was "suicidal" for Hilton to do such a thing.
For his part, the gossip blogger claims no such photo of the teen star exists. "Do you think Miley would be that stupid to be out in public without panties?" he asks in a video posted on his website on June 15. "Sure, I like to be controversial, but I don't want to go to jail."
Meanwhile, Cyrus touched on the issue in an interview during Ryan Seacrest's radio show Wednesday morning. "That's some idiot being an idiot," she said. "Isn't it funny that things like that, that are so negative, have to come out right before my record?"
