Despite the number of packaged goods that China produces, the Chinese consistently shun processed boxed and bagged picks. They believe food is healthier and tastier when it’s fresh, so they eat almost double the amount of freshly-prepared food compared to people in any other country, and triple the veggies, says the U.S.D.A. Economic Research Service.
Why it Works: Switching to a diet made of mostly fresh fruit, veggies, lean meats, poultry, fish, nuts and eggs can triple your weight loss, say researchers at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Hospital. “Unprocessed foods are packed with the vitamins, minerals and healthy fats needed to suppress appetite and speed fat burning,” explains Richard Johnson, M.D., a professor of medicine at Gainesville’s University of Florida. “Plus, they’re missing the high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, and other man-made compounds that sabotage weight loss by disrupting blood sugar and appetite control.”
