If we made a list of Celebrity Couples We Never Want to See Get Back Together, Rihanna and Chris Brown would be at the very top. Not that it should even be an issue; after all, why would the Sexeist Woman Alive want to reunite with the guy who physically assaulted her when they were minutes away from the 2009 Grammys? Surely she can find a better man, right?
And yet a shocking story in Us Weekly alleges that the singers have been secretly hooking up for nearly a year.
"Rihanna loves to live dangerously, and talking to and hooking up with Chris is all part of that," says one of the magazine's sources.
In response to the story, Brown -- who is dating model Karrueche Tran -- issued a revealing denial through his representative.
"He and Rihanna are just friends," Brown's rep tells Us. "He's not cheating."
OK, so maybe they're not hooking up -- but Rihanna and her former abuser are friends now? That's a big turnaround from March, when Rihianna told Rolling Stone: "We don't ever have to talk ever again in my life." Of course, no one really knows what went down during their relationship, but if anything should be a black-and-white, cut-and-dry deal breaker, it's domestic violence.
That said, there are ver clear signs that indicate that the two have become friends since Rihanna lifted the restraining order she once had against Brown. Back in May, the Rihanna upset fans by deciding to follow her ex-boyfriend on Twitter. And lately, their tweets seem suspiciously synced up, with Brown tweeting "Love U more than u know!" on Dec. 29, and Rihanna writing "I'll always love u #1LOVE" one minute later. And after Brown was photographed kissing girlfriend Karrueche Tran on New Year's Eve, Rihanna tweeted, "How can you lie to her, while u lay with me???"
Hopefully, Brown and Rihanna aren't really as close as it seems. Maybe Brown's rep was even being generous with the term "friends," and those lovey-dovey Twitter posts are just a coincidence. But they're not exactly doing anything to dispel the rumors.
