Responding to a challenge from Oprah Winfrey to make decorating less daunting, HGTV star, decorator and author Chris Madden set out to design a home decor collection that would speak to the romantic, serene and adventurous sides of women. To bring her idea to life, Madden partnered with JCPenney and, in June 2004, introduced the Turning Home into Haven Collection, a fully stocked and affordable line of bedding, lighting, rugs and furniture. "Women want their homes to be a personal expression of themselves — to have their homes and their individual rooms reflect them both on a personal and emotional level," says Madden. The quietly inspirational collection is infused with soft, neutral colors, such as sage, gold and ivory, and features varied textures, simple contours and ethnic accents.
What you'll love: Madden's Rochelle Bed (headboard, $694; footboard, $204; rails, $171), set to debut in January 2005, is sleek and masculine. (How could your husband object?)
