Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has never sung "I will try to fix you" to wife Gwyneth Paltrow! Speaking to CBS News, the English rocker says that being married to the 39-year-old actress is "like winning the lottery."
During the interview, CBS Sunday Morning's Anthony Mason asks whether it's true that Martin has only been in one serious relationship in his life.
"Yeah, I'm in it," he asserts.
When Mason suggests that an eight-year marriage is a "big leap" from never having had a serious relationship, Martin, 34, agrees wholeheartedly.
"It's a big leap? What, from being a loser, to going out with an Oscar winner?" he says with a smile. "'It's a giant leap. Let's face it; it's like winning the lottery. I was happy to make (the leap)."
The musician also talked about how being a dad to Apple, 7, and Moses, 5, has changed his life.
"It's made it more focused," says Martin. "And you have a purpose. I like what it does. Just the idea of having to work hard so your kids are okay."
Paltrow and Martin, who met backstage at a Coldplay show, have generally declined to discuss their marriage with the press. Occasionally, though, they let things slip -- like a couple years ago, when Martin told Rolling Stone that having a famous, successful wife keeps him on his toes.
"I always felt it would be great to be with a very powerful woman because it would keep you in your place," said Martin. "Being married to someone very successful and very powerful basically keeps you hungry to improve. You've got to be hungry. If your wife went out with Brad Pitt, you'd want to prove yourself, you know what I mean?"
Perhaps that's especially true for Martin, who says he felt unwanted by women until he was in his 20s. In fact, he says that's how he and Coldplay guitarist Johnny Buckland came to form a band in the first place.
"Funny enough," says Martin, "we met because no girls were sexually attracted to us."
