You don't hear much from Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin. We know the obvious -- he's married to Gwyneth Paltrow, and they have two kids, Apple and Moses, he hates the paparazzi, and makes some good music.
Well, that's all I really knew about him -- until now. Chris opened up to the new issue of Rolling Stone, and he revealed some interesting details about his past and current love life.
I was pretty surprised to hear that he wasn't raking in the women early on, mainly because he was a singer, and most guys in a band get chicks, don't they?
"I had a tricky time with girls until I was, like, 21. I got trapped in the friendship tip many, many times. It was like, 'I need to be a rock star because this is no good: Being the kind of guy that everybody likes but no one wants to have sex with,'" he recalls. "I don't want to be the person that makes everybody laugh before they go off and bang. I want to be the guy that everybody bangs."
Then he says that Gwynnie (who dated Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, etc., etc.,) was his only "real" relationship!
"Is that weird? I don't think it's that weird," the singer, whose new album Viva La Vida drops June 17. "It wouldn't be weird 200 years ago... Think of Romeo and Juliet."
And being married to someone like his wife seems to keep him where he needs to be -- on his toes.
"I always felt it would be great to be with a very powerful woman because it would keep you in your place," he says. "Being married to someone very successful and very powerful basically keeps you hungry to improve. You've got to be hungry. If your wife went out with Brad Pitt, you'd want to prove yourself, you know what I mean?"
