Christian Bale and Drew Barrymore don't appear to have much in common -- he's The Dark Knight, she's Never Been Kissed -- but back in the day, they were almost a couple. In a new interview with GQ Australia, Bale revealed that he and Barrymore (who is one year his junior) briefly dated as teenagers. Unfortunately for Christian, Drew wasn't terribly interested!
"We went to see some bloody awful horror film, and that was the end of it," Bale, 38, told the magazine (via NY Daily News). "She never called again."
Guess even Batman strikes out once in a while! Back then, of course, Bale wasn't a superhero; he was that kid from Newsies. And Barrymore, by 17, had already been to rehab twice and posed for Playboy. We're guessing they were maybe at different places in their lives?
Not that things haven't turned out for the best. Barrymore, 37, is now expecting her first child with fiance Will Kopelman, and Bale has a 7-year-old daughter with Sibi Blazic, his wife since 2000. Bale's marriage is a fairly long one by Hollywood standards, but it sounds like the actor is as committed to his relationship as he is to his film roles.
"Life's enjoyment is in commitment, isn't it?" he said to GQ during a discussion of The Dark Knight Rises. "Happiness is in the complete immersion of whatever you're doing, regardless of all else."
