Christian Bale isn't exactly known for being the sweetest guy in the world -- remember his infamous tirade on the set of Terminator Salvation? -- but now he's done something so unforgivable, even Batman couldn't save him. According to the New York Post, Bale, 36, has not spoken to his mother in nearly two years.
In 2008, the night before the London premiere of The Dark Knight, Bale had a major blowout with his mother and sisters. Bale allegedly screamed at his family members and threw them out of his hotel suite. There was also suspicion of assault. The incident prompted Bale's mother, Jenny, to call the police, which resulted in the actor's arrest.
His mother has now opened up to the U.K.'s Daily Mail about the evening that has since estranged her from her son. Jenny, 62, explained, "He just exploded with anger like I have never seen. He never gave us a chance to find out what it was all about before he frog-marched us out of his suite."
Bale's sister Sharon also recalled the terrifying exchange, "He had his face to mine and he was bellowing and swearing about how I never called or emailed. His wife, who I have met a few times and always got on with, was standing across the room. I kept asking her, 'Why is he doing this?' but she just shrugged. I was shaking. It was so frightening. It didn't make any sense."
His mother says that she now relies on Internet reports to see how her son and his family -- including wife Sibi Blazic and 4-year-old daughter Emmeline -- are doing. Jenny told the Mail, "I search for pictures of him on Google just to see how he is. Sometimes he's pictured with his daughter, and I get to see how she's growing. If I want to know what's going on in his life, I have to read the headlines. What if something terrible happens and I have to find out about it in a newspaper? I'm his mum and he's my little boy."
Bale, a native of Wales who costarred in the 2009 Johnny Depp biopic Public Enemies, will next be seen in a film called -- we're not kidding! -- The Fighter, directed by someone with a famously temperamental past of his own, David O. Russell.
We can't imagine what fury Bale feels toward his mother that would prompt him to cut her out of his life (and his daughter's life) so completely -- but we hope the two patch things up soon, if only for the sake of the little girl who would probably benefit from knowing the love of her grandmother!
