Rep: Christina Aguilera "Fat Girl" Quotes Are False

It was widely reported that the singer dished about her weight gain in a Billboard interview, but her rep says the quotes are false

Over the weekend, the new Billboard cover story picked up steam after it was widely reported that Christina Aguilera referred to herself as a "fat girl" in the interview. But the singer has come forward saying she was misquoted, and she wants to set the record straight.

"She never said [the quotes]," a representative for The Voice judge tells Entertainment Weekly, while the same spokesperson tells People that they're "100% false."

Several news outlets (including iVillage) reported that Aguilera, 31, had addressed her weight gain in the interview and used quotes that were actually never printed in the Billboard magazine or on their website.

The misrepresented quotes included the following: "During the promotion of my album Stripped [in 2002], I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl. The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings! Let me tell you, that wasn't an easy pill for them to swallow."

The quote continues, "I told them during this Lotus recording, 'You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.' They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them. It's my body. My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore -- my body is just not on the table that way anymore."

The original source of the quotes is unclear, but EW points to this reblogged Tumblr post as the reason for the error.

So Aguilera may not have been quite so open about her weight gain -- but that's doesn't mean she isn't proud of her curves. In a recent interview with Lucky, she admitted that she loves her fuller figure.

"I love that I now have a booty," she said. "And obviously, I love showing my cleavage."
