Is Christina Aguilera's Sexy Video Inappropriate for a Mom?

The singer and mom is unapologetic about the outrageously sexual themes in her "Not Myself Tonight" video

Christina Aguilera, 29, has said that her new album, Bionic, was inspired by her 2-year-old son, Max. That's why some fans are understandably surprised that Aguilera's video for the sexually suggestive single "Not Myself Tonight" features near-naked fashions, bondage gear, and girl-on-girl action. Is this really the persona that Aguilera wants to project? After all, her son will presumably watch the video, someday.

"I never claimed to be a cookie-cutter soccer mom," Aguilera told Access Hollywood, in defense of the clip. The singer-songwriter says that her video will actually help teach little Max to respect women: "He's going to grow up in a household where he knows mommy expresses herself artistically and some of that will have to reflect itself sexually... He's going to learn to respect the fact that women are allowed to express themselves and not feel shameful about their bodies or their sexuality."

Perhaps what's even more surprising about the "Not Myself Tonight" video is that, in Aguilera's career, she's been down this road before: she already sparked a "How far is too far?" controversy in 2002 with her super-raunchy "Dirty" video. Soon after, Aguilera underwent a glam makeover to become the classy crooner-turned-supermom we know and love. What's causing her to revisit bump-and-grind territory now, with her new too-sexy-for-MTV video?

Well, she might be smarter than we think. If Lady Gaga made this same video, nobody would bat an eye. But because we all know that, at home, Aguilera is raising a small child, the video has sent shockwaves across the internet. And in the jaded music scene, it's not easy to shock fans with a video anymore. We have to give the Grammy winner props for making us pay attention -- and giving moms permission to be proud of having a sexual side. In Aguilera's case, it's what gets the job done.
