8 Gifts for the Favorite Gardener in Your Life

Whether your favorite gardener is a gardening fanatic or a gardening wanna-be, there is sure to be something on this list that will suit her perfectly.

1. Gardening tools
Sturdy, well designed tools are one of the most needed and appreciated gifts you can give any gardener. Everyone can use another spade, pruner, fork or trowel. Other ideas are a triangular weeder, a wheelbarrow or an aesthetically designed watering can.

2. A beautiful gardening book or subscription to a garden magazine
The gardening world is filled with books and magazines that offer a visual feast as well as much-needed horticultural information. This gift is perfect is your mother is a novice gardener or an expert.

3. A gardening journal
Though a journal may not be as important as a pruner, this is a "tool" gardeners need more than they realize. It helps to create a history of your garden over the years.

4. Amaryllis in a pot
Anyone, and I mean anyone, can grow an amaryllis. Plus, they're a real showstopper when in bloom.

5. A rustic wreath
Much like the saying ''a man can never have too many ties,'' I believe that come the holiday season, you can never have too many wreaths. Whether you make a wreath (I love making grapevine wreaths -- they only take a few hours) or buy an one, keep in mind these decorations are not limited to the front door.

6. Flowering plants
What could be a better gift than a flowering plant to brighten up a dark winter day? Some of my favorites are: abutilons, begonias, lavender, orchids and cyclamens. Check out six of my blooming favorites.

7. Herbal or floral bath products
What mother can't resist soothing bath products? Even if she's not a gardener! If she is a gardener -- then it makes the gift even better. Our muscles are aching, our skin is dry and our feet are callused. Bath salts, hand and body lotion and sensual soaps are a feast for our bodies and souls.

8. An elegant vase or container
This is a no-brainer. Gardeners are always placing vases filled with an array of flowers throughout their homes. Choose something that will go along with your friend's decor, or try something creative and rustic.
