Christmas Party Ideas for Your Kids

I am planning a Christmas party for my two elementary age children. I would like to keep the kids physically active, and was wondering if you could share several ideas for holiday party games.

Question:

A Christmas party is a wonderful way to celebrate the joy and magic of the season. It's also a wonderful opportunity for children to socialize outside of school.

There are some traditional party games that could easily be adapted for the holidays. For example, a game of musical chairs played with Christmas music is a fun twist on an old favorite. "Pin the nose on Santa" is another adaptation where you can have the kids try to get a red dot on Santa's nose while blindfolded. You can purchase an inexpensive cutout of Santa at a craft or discount store or draw him yourself. Why not try a scavenger hunt? Group the children into pairs or trios and have them find things in the house or, weather permitting, outside. Some ideas for the list could include items that are of the various holiday colors (white, green, red, gold, silver).

Holiday baking is another suggestion for a party activity that will entertain and delight youngsters. They can make gingerbread houses or bake and decorate holiday cookies. You should consider the ages of the children you have invited and the number of parents who will be there to help you, to decide if this type of activity is appropriate.

Another suggestion is to include crafts in your party plans. Have the children make Christmas ornaments out of felt or Styrofoam shapes. They might also enjoy decorating stockings using sequins and fabric paint. Be creative!

You might want to consider holiday caroling as a closing activity for the party. The children can sing along with a CD or a piano. It might be a good idea to preselect several songs and have lyrics available for the children to read.

This sounds like a wonderful idea! Enjoy yourself and be sure to record the event with the video camera, or take some still pictures you can share with the other parents.
