Cindy Crawford is the latest celebrity to have her private life exposed.
A disturbing photo of Crawford's 8-year-old daughter fell into the wrong hands and became the source of an alleged $100,000 extortion plot.
According to Los Angeles TV station, KTLA, the extortionist repeatedly threatened to sell the picture to the media if they didn't pay up. It is said to depict the girl, who was 7 at the time the photo was taken, wearing "revealing clothing, bound to a chair and gagged." FBI papers describe the clothing as shorts and a T-shirt.
Details disclosed in the affidavit say that the daughter told her parents the photo was taken as part of a game of cops and robbers. Cindy and her husband, Rande Gerber, said they did not consent to having their daughter photographed.
As recounted in a TODAY show segment about the extortion plot, the photo was in the possession of a former nanny when it was stolen by alleged blackmailer Edis Kayalar. The 26-year-old has been deported to Germany for undisclosed (and, presumably, unrelated) reasons. Kayalar continued to demand the $100,000 after the deportation.
He is believed to be in Stuttgart, Germany, and has since been charged with extortion. He faces a two-year sentence if convicted.
