For antioxidant oomph, cinnamon has few rivals. One teaspoon of powdered cinnamon packs as much of an antioxidant punch as half a cup of blueberries. And scientists now report what herbalists have long thought—that cinnamon may help regulate blood sugar. Wendy Bazilian, DrPH, R.D., coauthor of The Super Foods Rx Diet, says cinnamon may offer some help in managing diabetes, though it’s no substitute for medical treatment. Cinnamon tastes great in dishes savory and sweet, including soup, chili and baked goods.

For a tasty twist on your morning joe, sprinkle one-half teaspoon of cinnamon onto ground coffee before brewing.
