Cinnamon

What it's got: This homey spice is full of antioxidants—compounds that mop up dangerous free radicals from the body.
Why it's super: Research has shown that a very small amount of ground cinnamon—less than a half-teaspoon a day—helped lower blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. It also reduced blood levels of total cholesterol, including triglycerides and LDL ("bad") cholesterol.
Other super spices: Cloves, oregano, turmeric, cumin and parsley
Tip: For a super-nutritious snack, combine chopped walnuts, whole-grain cereal, dried apples and a healthy sprinkle of cinnamon.
