Latka's Delicious Doggie Treats, a new brand of all natural home-baked dog treats, has launched in New York City.
The new treats business is the pet project of Beth Goldberg, a promotional marketing and events professional, who embarked on the venture after losing her job when her former employer suffered the effects of the economy's downturns. Unexpected unemployment meant Ms. Goldberg finally had the time to make her dream of adopting a puppy come true. "When I brought my wonderful dog Latka home, little did I know he would later become my business partner," Goldberg said.
Inspired by Latka's fondness for her wholesome home baked treats, Ms. Goldberg decided to put her love for dogs and baking to work by making all natural dog treats available for sale. The treats business is named after Latka, whose photograph and story appear on the products' packaging. According to Goldberg "Latka plays an active role in the business, serving as chief tasting specialist." She added "I truly enjoy having the opportunity to spend time with Latka while we work."
Made by hand, one at a time, Latka's treats are baked with human grade ingredients and contain no sugar, preservatives, coloring or additives. Treats are currently available in two flavors -- cheddar cheese and peanut butter -- and can be purchased in attractive 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. tin tie bags. Treats gift packages are available for holidays and special occasions ranging from Christmas and Valentine's Day to birthdays, obedience school graduations and more.

As an entrepreneur, Ms. Goldberg subscribes to the idea that companies should do well by doing good. Ten years ago, Ms. Goldberg worked for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), where she had the opportunity to witness first hand the many dogs desperately needing loving homes. A decade later, the problem still persists, and Goldberg hopes her business can help to make a difference in the lives of dogs.
