Melanie's Closet-Cleaning Adventure
(or should I call it, "Melanie and Allen's Closet-Cleaning Adventure"?)
The first night I got the assignment, I was sitting at my computer printing it out when my husband came in from work. He asked me, "Did you look in your closet yet?" I told him no, and proceeded to look in my closet (we have separate closets). Lo and behold, my DEAR hubby had cleaned out the bottom of my closet, which before had been covered with shoes (not assembled neatly) and sweaters (from the top shelf that were in the way when I needed sweaters under them). The next morning (he is an early bird, I am not), he had cleared out all the extra hangers and put all of the clothes that were hanging up on these space-saver hangers (the kind that fold up and down). What a sweetie!!! There was not much left for me to do except purge. And I did.
I spent almost five hours trying on clothes and deciding what I was getting rid of. And I was brutal. I still have a pile of stuff (one of my little cousins wants to come and sort through the goodies, and I told her I would give her one week). After that, it's going to the Goodwill. I discovered something about myself in this purging. I do not like pastel suits. My sister gave me three pastel-colored suits that are absolutely beautiful. I took them, and put them in my closet. I never wore them. And I put them in the give-away pile this weekend. I also found a brand-new suit (tags attached) that is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. But it is orange, and I know I will never wear it. It is also too large for me now (bought right after the baby), so I am giving it to my sister. I will also never buy another pastel-colored suit. I don't know why I bought them before.
Thanks to my dear husband, who provided me with the jumpstart, my closet is now neat. He also installed a little rack that I can hang my scarves on (I have about 30 of them...lol) and another little rack where I can hang my belts. He took some junk that he had in my closet out, so now I can put my favorite sweaters on the shelves within my reach, and I have stored jeans and sweats on the top shelf, because I don't wear those as often.
This concludes Melanie and Allen's closet-cleaning adventure. :)
