The first-ever plus-size runway show during New York Fashion Week

When I first heard that OneStopPlus.com was holding a runway show during New York Fashion Week, I had wondered if the fashions would match up with those by designer powerhouses like Marc Jacobs, Luca Luca and Nanette Lepore. And surely, the girls wouldn't be the stick-thin size zero or two I've seen at the other presentations, but will the OneStopPlus.com models be, in fact, plus size? I was skeptical.

I took my seat at the Atrium in Frederick P.Rose Hall at Lincoln Center, where the runway show was taking place, one row behind Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, Real Housewives of New Jersey's Caroline Manzo, plus-size model Emme, actress Nikki Blonsky, America's Next Top Model cycle 10 winner Whitney Thompson (the first full-figured girl to win), and High School Musical's Kaycee Stroh. Other fashion editors from InStyle, Shape, WWD and New York Times were also in attendance. Upbeat, dance-y music played as the models strutted up and down the catwalk with teased poofs, ethereal makeup and confident smiles -- the prettiest I've seen all Fashion Week. America's Next Top Model cycle 3 contestant Tocarra Jones (pictured center) was among the pack.

OneStopPlus.com's spring/summer 2011 runway looks included pretty draped dresses in blushy hues, glam lace blouses and shrugs, cute crop jackets and blazers worn with cruise shorts and pants, and super-adorable jumpsuits I can't wait to buy, wear and accessorize.

Cute clothes aside, another thing I loved about the show was the feeling I got while sitting in the audience. During the models' final walk preceding the designers, the crowd stood up, roared and clapped longer than I've witnessed at other shows all week. A supportive vibe filled the room, even I got a little emotional. The models -- sizes 12 to 16 -- were so beautiful, radiant and carried this confidence I've yet to master. The crowd couldn't help but revel in the show's success.
