Littler kids won’t appreciate the subtleties of a flavorful crust, and they usually aren’t interested in a wide variety of toppings. But they sure love making pizzas with faces! These fast, fun pizzas are a perfect party food and each kid can easily make his or her own, making a face or whatever they like. For children, the best pizza sauce is a can of good tomatoes (try a can of Italian plum tomatoes marked San Marzano for best flavor) pureed in a blender with their juices. It makes a simple, kid-friendly sauce that lets the sweetness of the tomatoes shine through. (Adults love it too, provided you sprinkle the surface of the sauce with a touch of Italian seasoning and a little Parmesan.)
|1 English muffin, split||Halved pepperoni slices|
|2 to 3 tablespoons tomato sauce||Toppings as desired: olives, pepper slices, pineapple slivers|
|1/4 cup shredded mozzarella|
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Lay the English muffins halves cut side up on a baking sheet.
Spoon on the sauce and divide the cheese between the two halves. Top as desired.
Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Don’t overbake or the muffins will become too crispy.
