Consider a Raised-Bed Garden

You may want to try lifting your garden off the ground, says Nicholas Staddon, director of new plants for Monrovia, the leading grower of premium ornamental and edible plants. Raised-bed gardens are surging in popularity. Just build a three- to four-foot high square or rectangle with wooden boards, spread wire mesh along the bottom to keep rats and mice out, and fill the box with about 18 inches of soil.
