You know your Sunday is gonna be a good one when it starts with a huge batch of peanut butter cookie dough (one cup PB, one cup sugar, one egg, choco chips - easy!) Like a good widdle housewife, I cooked those babies up for my husband’s poker party, then made myself scarce while 16 men descended upon our home to watch football, eat pizza and play the river. The upside: I was like a little treat fairy, bringing cookies to my massage therapist and two girlfriends’ homes…one of whom returned the favor by enabling me to break my “No drinking alcohol during daylight hours” rule. (Hey, 3:30pm is dusk…y.)
Sugar and booze aside, have you heard about this supposed Berlin “feminist vandal”? He or she has been going up to various subway posters featuring Britney Spears, Leona Lewis and Christina Aguilera and “vandalizing” them by placing stickers on it which make it look like Photoshop has been opened. It’s an apparent commentary on the insane amount of airbrushing involved in the ads, and speaks more globally to women and the pressures we face to look a certain way. Having never met/heard from the vandals (vandalles?) themselves, I can’t say whether such feminist intentions are truly behind the defacing…but I absolutely love it. Much like tagging mailboxes with “You are beautiful” stickers, it’s a non-violent way of speaking up for ourselves and spreading a positive message while we’re at it. This reminds me a bit of the whole American Apparel “Gee, I wonder why women get raped?” scenario - even if I am jumping to conclusions by assuming the graffiti-er is making a statement without saying a word, so what? It’s a statement I agree with, defacing laws be damned.
What about you?
