Parboil:A method where food is submerged in boiling water to partially cook it. Normally the food is then submerged into an ice-water bath to stop cooking. The food would then be cooked through using another method such as sauteing. Parboiling saves time, especially when cooking thick or dense foods such as potatoes or carrots. For example: Parboiling potatoes before roasting ensures they'll finish cooking at the same time as the main dish.
