This year, TV viewers were treated to cool couples with sweet, funny and, at times, riveting love stories. On ABC's Desperate Housewives, the mystery of whom Mike (James Denton) married was revealed: Susan (Teri Hatcher)! On TNT's The Closer, Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) and Fitz (Jon Tenney) finally got hitched! Fox's Glee arrived on the scene with two compelling duos kept apart by circumstance: the jock-with-a-girlfriend Finn (Cory Monteith) and singing savant Rachel (Lea Michele), as well as married teacher Will (Matthew Morrison) and guidance counselor Emma (Jayma Mays). The latter pair's recent kiss holds promise for much more romance when Glee's season resumes this spring.
Hands down, though, the coolest couple of 2009 was The Office's Jim and Pam (John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer). Long before we could call them Jam, these two were a perfect match. Jim's confession to the Dunder-Mifflin receptionist outside the company casino party ("I'm in love with you.... I just needed you to know, once....") happened waaay back in 2006, after two seasons of pining for her. The next season brimmed with the tension of unrequited feelings, often Pam's.
When these two finally got together last year, critics warned that their love story would cost the NBC sitcom its vitality. Who wants to see a happy, satisfying relationship every week? Well, we do! Here, some memorable "Jam" moments of 2009:
"Café Disco" (May 7): "We're getting married today!" Pam tells the camera, because she and Jim have planned to run off and elope. But then they find themselves dancing with their zany colleagues at Michael's (Steve Carell) disco party. Gazing at on another, both realize that these weirdos are their extended family -- how can they get married without sharing the event with them?
"Company Picnic" (May 14): The camera crew isn't permitted into the hospital room where Pam and Jim find out she's pregnant. We peep through the window as Jim's face lights up with shock and joy. The silence makes the moment even more moving.
The "Niagara" episode (Oct. 10): Pam and Jim get married—twice. Secretly and sweetly, on a boat at Niagara Falls. Back at their planned church ceremony, guests re-enact the "JK wedding" viral video in a silly, hilarious, all-inclusive celebration of the soul mates.
